Georgia National Cemetery Rochester provided topographic surveying, master planning and construction documents for the new Atlanta Area National Cemetery, scheduled to open in 2005. Comprising 775 acres, the cemetery is nestled in the north Georgia mountains adjacent to Lake Allatoona. The site lies 35 miles northwest of Atlanta, accessible from Highway 20 midway between Cartersville and Canton. Perhaps the single most prominent feature of this property is its topography. Beginning at 850 feet above sea level, the site soars to elevations approaching 1,200 feet. This dramatic elevation change affords visitors views of the surrounding mountains.
